What Irish buyers are saying
Your info was more valuable than CarVert. It showed me whether I should even view the car. I bought it btw 👍
Ciarán, Dublin
Didn't see the Cat D until the report flagged it. The seller questions helped me know exactly what to ask.
Aoife, Cork
This is class. Great piece of software, would be useful to so many people.
Seán, Limerick
Love the questions to ask. I know nothing about cars so this was exactly what I needed.

Unreal, thanks a mill!! Will be sharing this.
Niamh, Waterford
Great peace of mind. Report is really beneficial. Thanks a million!

About

Built because Irish buyers kept getting burned

When you buy a used car in Ireland, the seller knows everything about it. You know nothing. CheckMyCar.ie levels that up. Paste any DoneDeal listing and get back a full breakdown of the timing system, mileage analysis, known issues for that exact model, price comparison, and the right questions to ask before you hand over any money.

This is not a history check. For finance, write-off, and ownership records use Cartell.ie. This tool tells you about the car itself. The mechanical risks, what it's actually worth, and what to watch out for. Use both.

⚠️ Reports are expert guidance, not professional mechanical advice. Always get an independent inspection before buying.
FAQ

Common questions

Is it free to use?

Yes. 3 free checks per day, no account required. Each check gives the full report every time.

How accurate is the engine data?

The engine database is manually verified against manufacturer service schedules and independent sources. It covers 116 engines across all common makes sold in Ireland. The report is expert guidance. Always get a physical inspection before buying.

What is a Cat D and should I avoid it?

Category D (now Category S in the UK) means the car was written off by an insurer due to damage, but repaired and returned to the road. It is not automatically a deal-breaker if the repair was done properly and the price reflects the history. It must be disclosed by the seller and you should always verify with a Cartell check.

What is CheckMyCar.ie?

A tool that checks DoneDeal car listings and gives you a full report covering the timing system, mileage, known issues for that model, price analysis, and what to ask the seller before you buy.

How does it work?

Paste a DoneDeal listing URL or the listing text. The tool reads the details, cross-checks against a database of known engine issues and Irish market prices, and gives you a plain-English report in seconds.

Does it replace a mechanical inspection?

No. It tells you what to look out for before you even visit the car. A physical inspection by a qualified mechanic before buying is always worth the money. This tool helps you decide which cars are worth getting to that stage.

Does it work for UK imports?

Yes. UK imports are common in Ireland and the tool handles them. If the listing has a UK reg plate, enter it in the MOT history section to get the UK service and mileage records.

What is a timing belt and why does it matter?

The timing belt synchronises your engine internals. If it snaps, the engine is usually destroyed. Repairs can cost more than the car is worth. Knowing whether your car has a belt or chain, and when it was last done, is one of the most important things to check before buying any used car.

What cars does it cover?

It works on any DoneDeal listing for Irish and UK registered cars. The engine database covers the most common makes and models sold in Ireland: VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Renault, Peugeot, Mazda and more.
